About The Position

The Extended School Year (ESY) School Adjustment Counselor (SAC) provides social-emotional and behavioral support to students with disabilities during the summer program. The SAC works collaboratively with educators, related service providers, and families to support students’ ability to access their educational program, maintain critical social-emotional skills, and prevent regression.

Requirements

  • Appropriate DESE licensure/certification
  • Knowledge of special education processes
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience working with school-aged children, particularly students with social-emotional and behavioral needs

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct counseling services (individual and/or small group) as outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Support students in developing social-emotional skills, including self-regulation, coping strategies, social interaction, and problem-solving
  • Implement and monitor IEP goals related to social-emotional and behavioral functioning, collecting data on student progress
  • Collaborate with ESY staff (special educators, behavior specialists/BCBAs, related service providers, and paraprofessionals) to support consistent implementation of behavioral and emotional supports
  • Provide consultation and modeling for staff to support positive behavior interventions and trauma-informed practices
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services, progress notes, and incident reports
  • Communicate with families regarding student progress
  • Support a safe, structured, and supportive program climate for all students
  • Ensure compliance with all district policies, state regulations, and ethical standards related to student services and confidentiality
