About The Position

The Art and Music Elementary School Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging standards-based art and music instruction to elementary school students. This role fosters creativity, self-expression, and an appreciation for the arts while integrating cross-curricular connections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • State of Arizona Standard Professional Elementary K-8 teaching certificate, Art Education or Music Education
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students in an educational setting or artistic setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging, student-centered learning environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with students.
  • Ability to understand and maintain students' and parents' rights to confidentiality and not violate those rights; nor discuss students in inappropriate places or with anyone not in direct contact with such individual students.
  • Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position, is held in the highest of confidentiality.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies, including mandatory reporting procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student exploration and skill development in both visual arts and music.
  • Implement age-appropriate art and music curricula aligned with state and national standards.
  • Assist students toward the attainment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
  • Deliver lesson plans that integrate artistic techniques, music theory, history, and cultural appreciation.
  • Introduce students to a variety of art media (e.g., painting, drawing, sculpture, digital art) and musical elements (e.g., rhythm, melody, instruments, vocal performance).
  • Incorporate hands-on, project-based learning experiences that encourage creativity and self-expression.
  • Use differentiated instruction strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with special needs.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to integrate art and music into core subjects.
  • Collaborate with school staff to plan and implement arts-based events, concerts, and exhibits.
  • Organize student performances, art displays, and musical programs for school and community events.
  • Evaluate, conscientiously and fairly, the accomplishments of students and provide progress reports as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Provide an atmosphere, physical and psychological, conducive to learning.
  • Maintain accurate permanent academic and attendance records for students.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Governing Board Policy.
  • Attend and participate in general faculty and department meetings.
  • Cooperate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional equipment, as applicable.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and training to stay current on best practices in arts education.
