The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing, governing, and driving continuous improvement in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental, and Community (SHEC) policies, standards, and management systems for exploration activities across the United States. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field required
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and risk management skills required
  • High personal commitment to safety leadership and Barrick´s DNA values‑based performance.
  • Eligible to live and work in the USA required
  • Fluent in reading, writing, reading and interrupting in English language required

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree and/or professional certifications, preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Safety, Health, Environment, and/or Social Performance roles within mining, exploration, or heavy industry preferred
  • Demonstrated experience supporting exploration or remote field-based operations preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. regulatory frameworks, including OSHA, MSHA, EPA, and states’ environmental regulations preferred
  • Proven ability to influence leaders, multidisciplinary teams, and contractors preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure effective implementation of integrated SHEC programs.
  • Partners with Exploration leadership to proactively manage critical risks, strengthen safety culture, and reduce the likelihood of incidents with the objective of preventing fatalities and serious incidents, minimizing environmental impacts or property damage, while fostering positive community relationship and protecting the Company’s LTO across all NGM exploration activities.
  • Ensure and promote that all Exploration activities in NGM District are conducted in compliance with corporate health and safety standards as well as applicable legal and regulatory requirements (applicable federal, state, and local regulations (including OSHA, MSHA, and state-specific requirements).
  • Plan, lead, and participate in Management Assurance Reviews (MARs), internal audits, and field-based safety inspections across Canadian exploration projects.
  • Lead the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System and oversee the deployment of Fatal Risk Management and Life-Saving Controls across exploration operations.
  • Foster and embed a strong safety culture aimed at incident-free operations across all exploration activities and processes.
  • Design, implement, and deliver training programs related to emergency response and safety management.
  • Review, analyze, and report monthly health and safety performance statistics for both company operations and contractors.
  • Reduce the probability and potential impact of incidents associated with high-risk contractor activities through effective risk management and oversight.
  • Lead the implementation of occupational health prevention programs and industrial hygiene initiatives.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development and tracking of corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Own the Drilling Standard at NGM Exploration – implementation and monitoring
  • Own the emergency response plans at NGM Exploration
  • Own the light vehicle standard at NGM exploration – implementation and monitoring
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Propose and update the documents related to the SGA related to the areas of its competence.
  • Participate in the identification or update of environmental aspects and impacts, as well as comply with the monitoring of environmental controls, measurement and verification mechanisms associated with environmental management that correspond to them.
  • Participate in the identification of opportunities for improvement in activities related to the SGA.
  • Ensure that the operational procedures in their charge are correctly applied.
  • Provide information derived from the environmental management that falls on the position.
  • Participate in environmental training activities when required, in coordination with their hierarchical supervisors.
  • Communicate to the environmental area those events that constitute environmental incidents according to the current procedures, as well as participate in the investigation of them, contributing to the formulation of action plans.
  • Carry out the tasks and works in accordance with the Environmental Policy and the guidelines of the Environmental Management System.
  • Report environmental incidents and formulate corrective, preventive or mitigating measures, as appropriate.
  • Participate in the corresponding environmental training activities.
  • Cooperate and contribute to the overall success of the Environmental Management System by actively participating in its activities.
  • You must be able to carry out all the essential functions of your position in a safe and responsible manner, including taking the necessary precautionary measures to protect your own health and safety, the health and safety of others.
  • Always use and maintain properly protective clothing and equipment, and other facilities provided for the protection of your health and the safety of others.
  • Report to your supervisor any situation that you consider represents a risk to your health or safety, to that of any other person.
  • Abide by the rules and cooperate with the management of the Risk Prevention Department, employees and others to ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs inspections of health and safety conditions and risks in your workplace as necessary, corrects issues / conditions / risks that do not meet the standards and / or reports them to your supervisor by the appropriate means.
  • Ask questions and / or inform your supervisor when you are not sure about any health or safety condition, policy or procedure.
  • Ensure personal compliance with all ASS standards.
  • Take immediate action to correct any sub-standard condition or behavior.
  • Ensure that work areas and equipment are in safe condition.
  • Ensure that each task / work is performed safely and without adverse consequences for health.
  • Identify, evaluate, control and report hazards using the Land Level Risk Assessments.
