About The Position

This position guides the successful completion of major engineering programs, or conceives research in areas of considerable scope and complexity supporting the development and production of Gulfstream products and services. The role involves selecting appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve complex engineering issues. The individual will be consulted extensively by associates and others as a recognized authority within the field, and will anticipate and resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways, developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities. The approach to problem-solving balances technical product, cost, and schedule. Work is performed without appreciable direction and is reviewed from a long-range perspective for desired results. The individual exercises latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments and makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative. A current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and/or other related aircraft fields is maintained to recommend innovations to improve quality and effectiveness of company products. This job requires the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Engineering, or related field.
  • Significant experience with structural or materials testing.
  • Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting MTS load frame systems.
  • MTS 793, Test Works Elite
  • Experience with servo-hydraulic testing and closed-loop control systems.
  • Working knowledge of material testing principles for metals and composite materials.
  • Experience writing test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ASTM testing standards and material characterization methods.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MOOG hydraulic control systems.
  • Experience with environmental systems
  • Experience with tensile, compression, shear, fatigue, and durability testing.
  • Familiarity with strain gages, extensometers, load cells, and data acquisition systems.
  • Calibration of systems including load cells, LVDTs, extensometers, etc.
  • Knowledge of Wheatstone bridges for designing transducers
  • Advanced degree in engineering, or related curriculum preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and execute structural and materials test programs.
  • Operate and troubleshoot MTS load frame systems and support MOOG-controlled hydraulic systems.
  • Develop test procedures, setups, and reports.
  • Conduct ASTM and other industry-standard tests for metallic and composite materials.
  • Design and execute non-standard and experimental test methods.
  • Analyze test data and provide technical recommendations.
  • Support and mentor engineers and technicians in test execution and best practices.
  • Selects appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve complex engineering issues.
  • Anticipates and resolves complex issues in creative and effective ways, developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and/or other related aircraft fields in order to recommend innovations to improve quality and effectiveness of company product.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
