Experienced Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
East & West Animal Hospital combines Eastern and Western veterinary medicine to provide compassionate, whole-pet care. The team supports patients’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing and builds relationships with clients through education and collaboration. The Veterinary Assistant will contribute to high-quality, personalized care in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The role includes assisting with patient care and treatment, laboratory work, diagnostic imaging, hospitalization, surgery, anesthesia, and client communication. Saturday shifts are required. The position offers opportunities for virtual and hands-on interactive training and continuing development.
Requirements
- Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, and processing laboratory tests.
- Confident and safe animal handling and restraint skills.
- Compassionate, positive, and team-oriented attitude.
- Strong communication and client service skills.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a dynamic environment.
- Comfortable adapting quickly as case flow and patient needs change throughout the shift.
- Motivated self-starter with a desire to continue growing knowledge and clinical skills.
- Able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises and potential exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste, and contagious diseases.
- Available to work required Saturday shifts.
Nice To Haves
- At least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Restrain pets and triage incoming patients.
- Collect and analyze laboratory samples.
- Perform diagnostic imaging.
- Manage and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
- Administer medications.
- Communicate treatment plans effectively with clients.
- Prepare for and assist with surgery.
- Assist with anesthetic management.
