About The Position

SavATree is hiring an experienced tree climber and crew lead for its General Tree Care Team. The role performs pruning, removals, and cabling for trees and shrubs, using climbing expertise and safety practices to support the health and appearance of clients’ landscapes. The Crew Lead position includes additional responsibilities for employees who demonstrate leadership qualities and want to guide a team.

The role requires working outdoors in varying conditions and performing physically demanding climbing, lifting, and aerial work. The job emphasizes quality, safety, teamwork, and strong communication with team members and clients.

Requirements

• Valid U.S. driver’s license; a CDL is a plus.
• Authorization to work legally in the U.S.
• Passion for outdoor work and commitment to environmental stewardship.
• Proficiency in proper pruning techniques for large shade trees and ornamental trees.
• Strong knowledge of tree and shrub species and their characteristics.
• Ability to climb without spurs.
• Knowledge of tree care safety standards.
• Experience with chainsaws, aerial lifts (bucket trucks), and other essential tree care equipment.
• Expertise in proper pruning cuts, branch collars, and chainsaw operations for trees up to 50 feet.
• Familiarity with ANSI A300 Pruning Standards and ANSI Z safety guidelines.
• Ability to perform aerial rescues and apply various climbing techniques.
• Ability to work with a diverse range of tree species, including oaks, maples, hemlocks, and pines.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently.
• Ability to safely perform climbing and aerial work in varying conditions.
• Experience with tree removal, including knowing when to use ropes or spikes for safe takedown.
• Physical stamina for climbing, lifting, and outdoor work, including frequent handling of heavy equipment and working in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform tree care services, including pruning, removals, and cabling for trees and shrubs.
• Climb trees using appropriate techniques, ropes, a saddle, and ladders.
• Operate chainsaws, aerial lifts (bucket trucks), and other tree care equipment.
• Apply ANSI A300 Pruning Standards and ANSI Z safety practices.
• Use proper pruning cuts and techniques to preserve tree health and structure.
• Assist with tree removals and use ropes, spikes, and other equipment for safe takedowns.
• Identify hazards and conduct safety checks before, during, and after each job.
• Perform aerial rescues when necessary.
• Communicate with team members and clients to support service quality and safety.
• Contribute to a positive, safety-focused team culture and, as a Crew Lead, guide a team.
