About The Position

Department 489 – COLUMBIA Class Integrated Power Systems (IPS) - is looking for an experienced engineer to lead procurement, design, manufacture, test, and delivery of main propulsion machinery (specifically the Main Propulsion Motor (MPM)) for the state-of-the-art electric drive propulsion system on the COLUMBIA Class submarine while mentoring a team of entry level engineers to develop them into experienced and effective senior engineers. A challenging system engineering opportunity exists within the IPS organization to support MPM shipboard integration by interfacing with mechanical/electrical design details, onsite construction/operations readiness, and qualification/production test troubleshooting. In addition, the team works with several suppliers to manage component development and provide technical and programmatic support throughout component design, manufacture, test, and delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in an engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience
  • Current DOD Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are a must
  • Candidate must be highly motivated
  • Experience working successfully both in a team environment and independently

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of technical drawing interpretation and GD&T
  • Familiar with standard operating and/or test procedure development
  • Knowledge of component integration to ship structures
  • Operations/construction support experience
  • Experience in submarine electronics or mechanical system development, integration, installation and test
  • Project management skills with a working knowledge of the principles of analytical problem-solving techniques

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and direction of shipyard construction / test activities (e.g. assembly/test procedures, manufacture/test trouble shooting, technical requirement disposition’s, etc.)
  • Participate in technical discussions with vendors, prime contractor and nuclear NAVY customers
  • Provide oversight at vendor facilities and the compatibility test facility (CTF) in Philadelphia, PA to support component outfitting and installation
  • Review internal documentation to ensure ship specification and procurement specification requirements are met
  • Mentor and train entry level engineers in the fundamentals of technical rigor and completed staff work to properly develop complex equipment and meet
