About The Position

The Phlebotomist supports plasma center operations by screening donors and performing phlebotomy. The role involves greeting donors, conducting venipuncture, operating plasmapheresis equipment, monitoring donors during donation, and responding to donor reactions. The position reports to the Plasma Center Manager and requires a commitment to customer service and quality. This is a part-time role, with most shifts lasting 4 to 6 hours per day, at least 3 days per week. Shift days and times are discussed early in the interview process, and schedule changes are communicated in advance. Paid interactive training is provided. The position is based in Tallahassee, Florida.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to walk and/or stand for the entire work shift.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to lean, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach above the shoulders and below the knees.
Ability to lift up to 5 lbs., occasionally lift materials up to 32 lbs., and rarely lift up to 50 lbs.
Fine motor coordination, depth perception, and ability to hear equipment from a distance.
Ability to wear gloves for prolonged periods; 90% of work tasks require prolonged glove wear due to potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
At least 1 year of experience in a customer- or patient-facing role is helpful.

Responsibilities

Greet donors as they enter and exit the donor floor.
Perform donor venipuncture and program plasmapheresis machines.
Monitor donors during donation and manage donor reactions.
Set up, verify, operate, and troubleshoot plasmapheresis equipment within the scope of training.
Install, prime, and disconnect disposable sets on plasmapheresis machines.
Stock supplies, break down empty cartons, and assist with proper disposal.
Measure and record donor pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, and monitor the electronic donor questionnaire system.
Perform finger sticks, test samples, and record donor measures including hematocrit, total protein, and weight.
Enter donor information into the Donor Information System (DIS).
Coordinate donors to the donor floor and compensate donors using the Debit Card system.
Support the center management team in identifying operational improvement opportunities and implementing changes through approved procedures, including 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen.
