About The Position

Honeywell Aerospace is seeking an Experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join the engineering team at its Redditch, UK site. The role follows a hybrid arrangement of three days in the office and two days working from home. The site designs, develops, and manufactures components for small-scale cooling infrared devices used in guided weapons and thermal imaging systems, high-pressure actuation systems, and satellite cryogenic systems. Many programs serve space and military markets. The engineer will manage projects from start to finish, including supporting customer estimates, preparing quotations and proposals, and developing products from concept through release. The role covers mechanical product engineering, qualification, production introduction, manufacturing support, and coordination with cross-functional engineering and production teams.

Requirements

  • A minimum mechanical-based engineering degree; an HND/HNC is acceptable when supported by relevant work experience.
  • Some experience in a relevant industry.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills when working with multifunctional teams.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and develop skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 15–20 years of mechanical engineering experience is desired.
  • Sound mechanical engineering background and experience running projects.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, or programming.
  • Knowledge of or interest in learning joining processes such as soldering, brazing, and welding.
  • Experience working in an engineering function rather than production.
  • Understanding of new product development, product lifecycle, and introduction to production through a gated process.
  • Industry experience in defense, aerospace, automotive, or oil and gas; applicants from other industries are also encouraged if they can demonstrate relevant ability.
  • Project engineering experience and understanding of typical project engineering tools and processes.
  • Strong engineering and analytical skills.
  • Understanding or background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, or fluid mechanics.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering of mechanical products from concept through completion of qualification.
  • Develop or support the development of products, test rigs, and processes from concept to production, meeting customer performance, qualification, and safety specifications as well as milestone and cost requirements.
  • Organize and coordinate tasks supporting engineering programs, including New Product Introduction (NPI), productionization, and engineering production support.
  • Coordinate or support the transition of new products from engineering to production within specified cost, schedule, and process requirements, ensuring manufacturability.
  • Support technical proposals for new business enquiries and assist the sales function as required.
  • Implement defined engineering process-improvement measures to improve quality and cost-effective production and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Provide engineering technical support to other program teams in engineering and production.
  • Provide monthly progress reports on project activities.
  • Support product manufacturing with deviations or waivers and root-cause corrective action where necessary.
  • Support customer estimates and provide quotations and proposals.
  • Manage product development from concept through release.

Benefits

  • Clear pathways for advancement, regular feedback, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Access to training and certifications.
  • Flexible working arrangements and support for combining work with education.
