About The Position

The Stern Area System (SAS) and TSMS team has an opening for an experienced engineer. D440 is a unique engineering organization with a range of responsibilities. Projects will include supporting shipboard construction and integration, developing and preparing test procedures, and supporting the fleet with troubleshooting after systems are in use. In this construction support role, the engineer will interface with engineers across various disciplines, Electric Boat management, Electric Boat Program Offices, Navy Laboratories, SUPSHIP, NAVSEA, Ships Force, and ISEA.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Civil, Marine, or Structural Engineering; Engineering Technologies; Electronics; or Computer Science.
• At least 5 years of postgraduate professional engineering experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to adjust to and work with priorities in a shifting environment.
• Ability to function independently and work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Ability to work in laboratory and production environments.
• Ability to travel on short notice, typically less than 25% of the time, potentially more and possibly internationally.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to learn and adapt to tasks outside one's knowledge base.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of, or ability to learn, how to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, construction drawings, equipment drawings, and vendor equipment manuals, and familiarity with shipbuilding specifications, technical manuals, and other source documentation.
• Interest in learning about electromechanical systems or experience with them.
• Experience developing test procedures.
• Experience integrating and testing complex systems.
• Experience in ship construction.
• Experience in system-level testing and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Support shipboard construction and integration.
