About The Position

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia, with over 25,000 employees. They are the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. NNS is seeking an experienced assembler to join their M53 Machine Shop team. The role involves performing various assembly and machining tasks on components and industrial maritime machinery, requiring the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

3+ years of relevant experience in assembly or outside machining.
Ability to use precision instruments efficiently.
Ability to lift objects up to 40 pounds.
Limited bending, standing, squatting, and climbing.
Ability to work any shift.

Nice To Haves

Experience in naval, heavy industrial, or shipbuilding environments.
Experience with machinery alignment.
Familiarity with quality control and test records.

Responsibilities

Perform Hydrostatic testing of components and assemblies in accordance with engineering requirements and test procedures.
Operate magnetic base drills and other in-place machining equipment to perform in-place drilling, reaming, line boring, and tapping.
Install and align industrial maritime machinery using engineering drawings and installations specifications.
Read, interpret, and work from mechanical drawings and fabrication prints.
Perform fabrications tasks including cutting, fitting, and grinding.
Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring equipment.
Troubleshoot assembly issues and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area while complying with all safety and quality requirements.
Assemble and disassemble mechanical components such as valves, gearboxes, doors, pumps, etc.
