Experience and Process Design Lead

AlbemarleCharlotte, NC
Hybrid

About The Position

Albemarle is transforming how enterprise work gets designed. As we evolve our Continuous Improvement (CI) capability into a strategic Experience and Process Design (EPD) function, we are looking for a leader who brings a human-centered design mindset to complex, cross-functional process reimagination. This role sits at the intersection of process excellence, AI-enabled automation, and organizational experience design and will play a defining role in how Albemarle shapes its future operating model across critical enterprise processes like Order-to-Cash, Record-to-Report, and beyond. This role is hybrid and will have 3 required days per week in our Charlotte office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Industrial Engineering, Organizational Design, Human-Centered Design, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in process improvement, experience design, management consulting, or a related discipline, with a demonstrated track record of leading complex, cross-functional process redesign initiatives.
  • Deep expertise in process analysis methodologies including value stream mapping, workflow decomposition, RACI design, and current-state/future-state process documentation.
  • Proven ability to design and facilitate executive-level workshops that produce structured, actionable outputs — not just alignment and discussion.
  • Fluency with human-centered design principles (HCD), journey mapping, and service design as applied to employee or customer-facing enterprise processes.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in experience or process design, including prior leadership in a center-of-excellence or enterprise transformation function.
  • Experience identifying and scoping AI-assisted or agentic automation opportunities within redesigned workflows; familiarity with tools such as Celonis, Microsoft Copilot, or comparable process mining and workflow platforms.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Lean certification, or equivalent formal CI methodology training, with experience operating CI as a design function rather than a project management or coaching support.
  • Strong executive presence and stakeholder influence skills — comfortable shaping demand, aligning senior leaders, and representing EPD capability as a strategic enterprise asset.
  • Experience working in global, matrixed organizations with regional regulatory considerations, including the ability to navigate cross-functional governance and change management complexity.
  • A portfolio mindset: ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements, balance delivery with playbook-building, and continuously improve team methods based on real delivery outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end process reimagination engagements across Albemarle’s most complex, cross-functional workflows — applying human-centered design, journey mapping, and service design to diagnose work stalls, uncover pain points, and define future-state experiences rather than incremental improvements.
  • Design and facilitate structured process workshops that decompose enterprise workflows into discrete task units, assess task frequency, effort, and variability, and build clear task-to-role mappings including the distinction between human decision work and system or agent execution.
  • Define outcome-based performance metrics that replace legacy efficiency measures with decision speed, quality, and rework reduction targets — establishing baselines, setting targets, and building stakeholder alignment on what “good” looks like in a redesigned process.
  • Identify and prioritize agentic AI and automation pilot opportunities within redesigned workflows, partnering with IT and Digital teams to translate process design outputs into actionable, technology-ready specifications that unlock step-change productivity.
  • Build and maintain the EPD delivery playbook — including reusable templates, facilitation toolkits, and standardized deliverables (process maps, work stall heatmaps, RACI models, agentic pilot candidate lists) — ensuring consistent, high-quality outcomes across all engagements.
  • Shape Albemarle’s EPD engagement model by partnering with the E&PD Team Lead on demand shaping, intake prioritization, and the decision between CI-led design delivery versus CI enablement and coaching — ensuring EPD capacity is focused on the highest-value enterprise opportunities.
  • Embed EPD standards and outcomes into large, strategic initiatives early in the design cycle, acting as a senior thought partner to functional and technology leaders to influence solution design before key architectural decisions are made.
