About The Position

The Expeditor at the Distribution Center is responsible for staging products from manufacturing plants and managing outbound LTL and TL shipments. This role requires careful handling of products to ensure accurate staging, placement on carriers' equipment without damage, and maintaining high standards of product care. The position also involves coordinating product movement within the warehouse, maintaining an accurate computer locator system, following up on order shortages, and assisting with all inbound and outbound distribution functions. Flexibility with work hours and conditions is necessary to meet customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year in a computerized shipping environment as well as actual floor experience preferred.
  • Legible and accurate writing skills are a necessity.
  • Must be able to operate clamps and forks on lifts with a high degree of efficiency.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Lift License (Clamp and Forks)
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and procedures.
  • Bring unsafe acts and conditions to the attention of the manager.
  • Correct hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Train other associates in safe work practices.
  • Investigate accidents, near-accidents, and potential hazards.
  • Actively participates in housekeeping activities and in the safety and health program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a good housekeeping standard of neatness and cleanliness in areas of responsibility.
  • Looks for ways to reduce product damage and loss.
  • Helps coordinate the movement of products in the warehouse to facilitate space availability.
  • Ensures shortages, damages, and accidents are reported to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Helps maintain an accurate computer locator system within the warehouse.
  • Follows up on order shortages to ensure customer orders are shipped complete.
  • Handles products with lifts carefully to ensure safe and damage-free parts.
  • Uses computer to stage, ship, and communicate.
  • Cross-trains and assists with all inbound and outbound distribution functions, including the Wood and Metal plant docks.
