About The Position

Under direct supervision working on the Exhibitions Production team, the Exhibitions Preparator I will assist with the fabrication, assembly, installation, dismantling, and/or moving of exhibit properties.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must demonstrate manual dexterity.
  • Proficient in the safe use of shop tools, equipment, and carpentry techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in woodworking, cabinet making, welding, fabrication, or replication techniques.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and if needed, complete the Respirator Fit Test.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or Sculpture, formal training in a related field, or equivalent relevant experience is preferred.
  • At least two years of work experience in a museum, industrial shop, or fine gallery is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with fabrication, assembly, installation, dismantling, and/or moving of exhibit properties.
  • Clean, maintain, and repair existing exhibits and displays, as needed.
  • Mount and dismount artifacts for exhibitions.
  • Build prototypes, samples, and models to support exhibit development and production.
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned.
