About The Position

The Exhibit Designer creates fun, immersive exhibit experiences across the Museum of Natural Curiosity, Butterfly Biosphere, Museum of Ancient Life, and Curiosity Farms. The role contributes to exhibit design, interpretation, development, and production, including creating oversized games and backdrops for events such as Tulip Festival, Luminaria, and Dino Days. The designer helps preserve exhibit content and story throughout the design process, supports exhibit production and maintenance, and assists teammates with exhibit tasks. The position collaborates with and takes direction from the Senior Director of assigned venues and contributes to the success of the Exhibits Team, its venues, and Thanksgiving Point. The role also requires professional, courteous, and understanding conduct and alignment with Thanksgiving Point’s mission, values, and policies. Other duties may be assigned by a manager or supervisor.

Requirements

• Knowledge, understanding, and experience with human-centered design or similar methods for developing immersive content for public engagement in a museum or informal learning environment.
• Solid understanding of best practices in exhibit interpretation, exhibit design processes, exhibit development, design research, copywriting, and safety guidelines.
• Organized, reliable, punctual, and flexible, with strong communication skills.
• Computer skills.
• Ability to stand, bend, lift, twist, and manipulate small objects.
• Pass a background check.
• Be at least 21 years old.

Nice To Haves

• Leadership experience.
• 3D modeling skills, such as Rhino.
• Adobe Suite skills; Figma is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create opportunities for fun, immersive exhibit experiences at the Museum of Natural Curiosity, Butterfly Biosphere, Museum of Ancient Life, and Curiosity Farms.
• Collaborate with and take direction from the Senior Director of assigned venues.
• Contribute to the overall success of the Exhibits Team, venues, and Thanksgiving Point.
• Contribute to the design, interpretation, development, and creation of items such as oversized games and event backdrops.
• Act as a custodian of exhibit content and story throughout the design process.
• Assist with exhibit production and maintenance as needed.
• Define core concepts and ideas during exhibit development.
• Help team members with other exhibit tasks.
• Exemplify Thanksgiving Point’s mission, values, and policies, and conduct oneself professionally, courteously, and understandingly.
• Perform other duties as assigned by a manager or supervisor.
