About The Position

The Exercise Specialist role is a full-time position within the Exercise Physiology department at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center. This role requires the demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development. Effective time management, multitasking, problem-solving, and organizational skills are fundamental. The incumbent will manage supply ordering, equipment maintenance, and patient documentation (excluding record creation). The role also involves caution and judgment when transporting patients and effective communication with various healthcare professionals, patients, and families.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school or college with Bachelor of Science in exercise science, exercise physiology or kinesiology, required.
  • Effective time management is a fundamental requirement for this role.
  • Proficiency in multitasking and discernment of when to request support is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities are expected.
  • Excellent organizational skills are required.
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
  • Utilize assigned time and resources in a manner that ensures the accomplishment of departmental objectives.
  • Prioritize tasks and reorganize workload in response to urgent or increased demands, and aid colleagues during periods of fluctuating census.
  • Manage supply ordering, receiving, and stocking.
  • Organize, maintain, clean, and store equipment.
  • Manage patient documentation (excluding the creation of patient care records).
  • Exercise caution and judgment when transporting patients.
  • Communicate effectively with therapists, physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families in a manner appropriate to the population served.
