A cardiac rehabilitation Exercise Physiologist utilizes the clinical process to offer a multifaceted and multidisciplinary approach to overall cardiovascular risk reduction, foster healthy behaviors, reduce disability, and promote an active lifestyle for patients with cardiovascular disease. The Exercise Physiologist works with a registered nurse to serve as a liaison between the patient and physician to facilitate expeditious and effective medical care. Participates in running Project Heart Smart when offered and in the Heart Beats Volunteer group as needed. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be necessary and assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science required.
  • Cardiology, physical rehabilitation, community health, teaching, exercise training or public health training.
  • Telemetry trained, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Preferred, Certification by the American College of Sports Medicine and/or American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. preferred, Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • CPR Certified required.
  • The worker must be able to stand, walk, talk, hear, lift, push, pull, reach, stoop, kneel, climb and perform repetitive motions, of the wrist, fingers or hands.
  • Advanced knowledge of cardiovascular disease, telemetry trained, exercise physiology, cardiac risk factor modification, counseling techniques, nutrition, group dynamic and cardiovascular health education principles .

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Preferred
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Preferred
  • Certification by the American College of Sports Medicine and/or American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. preferred
  • ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates skill in assessment of health care needs
  • Demonstrates comprehensive skills in observing and collecting health care data through chart review. Obtains appropriate clinical information for thorough review
  • Demonstrates skill in planning for patient health care needs
  • Plans an appropriate exercise routine and progression pattern including warm-up and cool down exercises according to individual patient needs an program protocol
  • Demonstrates skills in implementing patient care plan in order to meet patient care needs.
  • Prioritizes patient care based on nursing care assessment , individual treatment plan, team meetings, and ongoing assessment of patient needs
  • Demonstrates skill in evaluating care delivered
  • Maintains files and statistics according to protocol as observed by supervisor
  • Continually strives to improve the safety and quality of patient care
  • Participates in departmental quality activities and provides input and suggestions to improve patient safety
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and professional growth.
  • Maintains files, documents appropriately, and records statistics according to protocol as observed by supervisor.
