About The Position

Exercise Specialists help to create safe and effective exercise programs while identifying risk factors or contraindications. This role involves developing personalized exercise prescriptions, deciphering contraindications and abnormal patient responses to exercise, and assisting with fitness assessments. The specialist will also plan and teach exercise therapy, provide exercise information to patients and the community, teach proper exercise techniques, develop flexibility and sports-specific programs, and evaluate muscle function. Specific duties include assisting with member conversion for medical fitness programs and independently evaluating patients for cardiac rehabilitation programs, supervising rehabilitation programming, and establishing individualized treatment plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an approved Sports or Exercise Science major
  • + 6 months relevant work experience
  • Current BLS- Basic Life Skills Certification
  • AED Training required within 90 days of hire into the role
  • ACLS certification required within 12 months of employment
  • Medical Fitness or Cardiac Rehab certifications a plus (ie.. ACSM CEP, NSCA CSCS, ACSM CPT, NASM CPT, ACSM CEP, AACVPR CCRP, ACSM EP-C)
  • Able to make independent judgement decisions
  • Possess a high degree of accuracy in executing fitness prescriptions, receiving and translating information, evaluating results, charting, and reporting
  • Communicate effectively using appropriate industry related vocabulary and grammar when speaking to clients/patients regarding their health and exercise regimens
  • Ability to operate various fitness tools and equipment such as resistance tubes/bands, strength machines, cardio machines, kettlebells, fitness weights, exercise balls, TRX, etc…
  • Must be able to apply the theory of cardiac pulmonary medicine under the guidelines of American Association of Cardiovascular Pulmonary Rehabilitation & American College of Sports Medicine

Responsibilities

  • Develop personalized exercise prescriptions to increase physical fitness, strength, endurance, flexibility, and performance
  • Decipher contraindications and abnormal patient responses to exercise. Responds appropriately to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals
  • Assist EP/RT with fitness assessment for clients/patients to improve their health
  • All other assigned duties related to cardiovascular and pulmonary rehab, cardiopulmonary lab, and medical fitness
  • Plans and teaches exercise therapy for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen. Monitors patient's response and revises plan accordingly
  • Provides exercise information for patients, peers and the community which may include public speaking and education classes.
  • Teach patients proper exercise techniques
  • Develop flexibility, muscular endurance and sports specific programs
  • Evaluate muscle function including strength and power using a variety of resistance devices and specialized assessment equipment.
  • Assist in the contact and conversion of potential members and clients interested in our facilities offerings using our member management software.
  • Assist in the implementation of specific medical fitness programs including the delivery of education and exercise training.
  • Independently evaluate referred patients to qualify them for program participation factoring in inclusion/exclusion criteria and clinical safety
  • Supervise rehabilitation programming to assure each patient is performing appropriately for the ultimate goal of secondary prevention
  • Establish and individualized treatment plan based on patient assessment, exercise and behavioral goals and treatment plans
