About The Position

The Executive Director serves as the chief administrative and development officer of the Library Foundation of Hancock County and is responsible for advancing its mission through fundraising, donor development, community partnerships, special events, communications, and organizational management. Working under the direction of the Foundation Board of Directors, the Executive Director manages the Foundation's activities and works closely with the Hancock County Library System (HCLS) to identify opportunities for private support that enhance and expand library services throughout Hancock County.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
Strong leadership, organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to build effective relationships with donors, community partners, volunteers, library staff, and public officials.
Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and exercise sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
Commitment to public libraries, literacy, education, and community service.

Nice To Haves

Experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, development, community relations, business administration, public administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience working with boards, donors, volunteers, budgets, fundraising, grants, sponsorships, or special events preferred.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Foundation Board and committees.
Prepare reports, budgets, meeting materials, and recommendations for the Board.
Implement Board-approved policies, priorities, projects, and strategic goals.
Maintain Foundation records and ensure compliance with bylaws, policies, donor restrictions, and nonprofit requirements.
Manage Foundation contracts.
Develop and implement fundraising strategies to increase charitable support for the Foundation.
Cultivate and steward relationships with individuals, businesses, foundations, civic organizations, and community partners.
Develop sponsorships, annual giving, major donations, grants, memorial donations, planned giving, and other fundraising opportunities.
Prepare fundraising proposals, grant applications, sponsorship packages, and donor communications.
Maintain donor records and coordinate appropriate donor and sponsor recognition.
Work with the Treasurer, Board, and accounting professionals to develop and monitor the annual budget.
Monitor Foundation revenues, expenditures, restricted funds, and funded projects.
Ensure appropriate financial controls, documentation, reporting, and stewardship of charitable funds.
Assist with required financial reviews, tax filings, and nonprofit reporting.
Oversee the operation and continued development of the Second Line Used Bookstore.
Coordinate bookstore volunteers, donations, sales, financial procedures, promotions, and special sales.
Develop strategies to increase bookstore revenue and its support of the Foundation's mission.
Work with HCLS leadership to identify Foundation funding priorities and special projects.
Develop partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, civic organizations, schools, governmental entities, and other community organizations.
Represent the Foundation at community, civic, and library events.
Recruit and engage volunteers in Foundation activities.
Ensure Foundation resources enhance library services without replacing the core operating responsibilities of the Library System's governmental funding partners.
Coordinate Foundation fundraising and community events, including the annual Holiday Tree Gala.
Secure and coordinate event sponsorships, donors, volunteers, vendors, and other resources.
Promote the Foundation, its fundraising campaigns, bookstore, events, partnerships, and funded projects through appropriate communications and marketing.
Communicate the impact of charitable giving and increase public awareness of the Foundation's mission.
