Genesis Health Foundation - Executive Director
About The Position
The Executive Director will build and lead the Genesis Health Foundation, the philanthropic organization supporting Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. The Foundation’s mission is to fund world-class orthopedic care for patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or otherwise outside existing coverage structures. This founding-energy leadership role will develop the Foundation into a fundraising operation, community institution, and durable source of capital for indigent care. The Executive Director will own strategy, donor development, institutional partnerships, board management, grant operations, community presence, and the organizational infrastructure needed to support the Foundation. The role works in close partnership with the Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine leadership team and has direct visibility into the clinical impact funded by the Foundation. The position offers competitive nonprofit executive compensation and an opportunity to build a foundation from the ground up, backed by an established and growing clinical operation with 16 Chicagoland clinics.
Requirements
- Experience building a donor pipeline, closing major gifts, and managing an effective board.
- Motivation to address access to care through excellent clinical infrastructure and the financial architecture that supports it.
- A builder’s mindset and interest in creating an organization rather than maintaining an established one.
- Ability to engage both major donors and clinical teams, with an understanding of the importance of both.
- Ability to translate clinical outcomes and patient stories into persuasive investment cases for sophisticated donors.
- Chicago roots or readiness to learn and work within Chicago’s philanthropic and civic ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute major-gift and individual-donor strategies, including identifying, cultivating, and securing high-net-worth donors.
- Build institutional partnerships with foundations, health systems, corporate sponsors, and civic organizations in Chicago and beyond.
- Develop and manage a diversified portfolio of public and private grant funding.
- Recruit, activate, and steward a board that opens doors and brings resources.
- Design and manage an indigent-care fund that enables uninsured patients to receive care with zero friction.
- Develop the Foundation’s brand and storytelling, translating clinical outcomes and patient stories into compelling donor narratives.
- Build the team, systems, and processes required to operate a high-performance nonprofit.
- Lead the Foundation’s strategy, donor development, institutional partnerships, board management, grant operations, and community presence in partnership with Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine leadership.
