About The Position

Extendicare is building a pipeline of experienced and passionate healthcare leaders for future opportunities within their Long-Term Care homes across Ontario, Alberta, and Manitoba. There is a particular focus on Brandon, Manitoba, with a current ED vacancy and a bonus available. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and qualified candidates may be contacted as opportunities become available over the next twelve months. Opportunities may arise in rural and urban communities across Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario. The Executive Director is accountable for the overall leadership, strategic planning, and operational management of the long-term care home, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and organizational standards.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Health, Gerontology, Business, Marketing or Social Services
  • LTC Administrator Certification (where applicable)
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant health management experience including budgeting, operating statement analysis, labour relations and a thorough awareness of applicable legislation governing LTC operations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and engage a sizeable multidisciplinary team, in a unionized environment
  • Working understanding of business planning processes and utilization of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to drive business success and achievement of strategies
  • Experience in risk management activities and demonstrated knowledge of continuous quality improvement processes
  • Passion to promote a person-centered care philosophy and work with seniors
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations and funding expenditures while ensuring compliance with jurisdictional and organizational requirements.
  • Manage home operations within budget and promote fiscal accountability across departments.
  • Work with community partners, regional teams, and support teams to enhance resident and team member well-being.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable legislation, collective agreements, and Extendicare policies related to resident care and safety.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and guidance to managers, employees, residents, and families while building team capacity.
  • Foster a positive culture focused on quality care, resident rights, teamwork, and regulatory compliance.
  • Build high-performing teams through talent development, education, mentorship, and succession planning.
  • Lead and support quality improvement initiatives that enhance resident care and operational excellence.
  • Partner with leadership teams to develop strategies that strengthen resident care and support organizational goals.
  • Respond to feedback from residents, families, vendors, and team members with professionalism, empathy, and accountability.
