About The Position

USAA is seeking an Executive Director, Product Strategy & Innovation to lead the development of new product solutions with a member-centric design, considering the entire value chain. This role involves developing and implementing next-generation products that leverage new technology and data sources to serve member needs for protection products at the appropriate price. The position is accountable for creating and driving a prototyping and design-led approach to improve user experiences and new capabilities. The Executive Director will manage a team of leaders and/or individual contributors responsible for overseeing the launch and maturation of new products into target strategic markets for lead lines of business or complex programs impacting the organization. The role requires a flexible work environment, with 4 days in the San Antonio, TX office and 1 day flexible. Relocation assistance is available. The position is accountable for profit, loss, and operational objectives, leading the development and launch of new innovative multi-product offerings and enhanced features for existing products. Collaboration with control partners (Legal, Compliance, Risk Management) is essential to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. The role involves developing strategic recommendations for launching new products, including digital solutions, through buy/build/ally decisions. Accountability extends to overseeing the analysis of product performance metrics for future opportunities and enhancements, influencing key stakeholders, and creating product and coverage solutions from ideation to execution. The Executive Director will also oversee post-launch maintenance and underwriting of new products based on performance, member needs, and market changes. Reporting on new product offering results to the executive team and ensuring functional resources support product strategy formulation are key responsibilities. Partnership with sales is crucial to develop products meeting member needs across all distribution channels. Building, developing, and leading a team through recruiting, development, retention, coaching, performance management, and managerial activities is also a core function. Ensuring risks are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with policies is paramount.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, Statistics; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 10 years relevant industry experience in Operations, Marketing Actuary, or Underwriting to include direct product management experience or relevant military experience.
  • 4 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
  • Extensive experience developing product strategies, product plans and product roadmaps.
  • Extensive experience in developing, deploying and supporting product and/or integrated suite of products.
  • Exceptional communicator and engaging storyteller with a proven ability to communicate effectively with executives.
  • Advanced negotiation skills to resolve differences while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with an emphasis on customer focus, collaboration and partnering to obtain results.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution experience of large-scale enterprise initiatives.
  • Expert knowledge and application of Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC).
  • Expert knowledge of applicable product related regulations, and risk and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and leadership in the development of new product solutions into a member-led and member-centric design considering the entire value chain.
  • Develop and implement next generation products that leverage new technology and data sources to create products and services that serve member needs for protection products at the appropriate price.
  • Create and drive the prototyping and design led approach to creating improved user experiences and new capabilities.
  • Manage a team of leaders and/or individual contributors that is responsible for overseeing and managing the launch and maturation of new products into target strategic markets for lead lines of business and/or complex programs that have impact across the organization.
  • Lead the development and launch of new innovative multi-product offerings as well as auxiliary/enhanced features/services for existing products.
  • Collaborate with relevant control partners (to include Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management) to ensure product offerings are designed and implemented in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop and finalize strategic recommendations to launch new products to include digital through the evaluation and decision to buy/build or ally for the line of business for current and future members.
  • Oversee the analysis and evaluation of product performance metrics to form recommendations regarding future and current market opportunities and product enhancements.
  • Influence and drive decisions with key stakeholders throughout the Enterprise to execute on the USAA mission and further develop the product.
  • Create product and coverage solutions from ideation to execution for member needs to ensure a dynamic product development pipeline exists.
  • Develop and monitor oversight of post-launch maintenance and underwriting of 'new in market' products based on product performance, member needs and competitive changes in the market including but not limited to product rules, rates, and forms.
  • Report on results of new product offerings baselined with plan to executive team.
  • Provide functional resources to support formulation of product strategy.
  • Partner with sales to ensure new products offering are developed to meet current and future member needs across all distribution channels (e.g., .com, mobile, contact center).
  • Build, develop, and lead a team of individual contributors and managers through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
