POSITION SUMMARY: Are you a strategic finance leader who thrives on driving organizational performance, financial stewardship, and operational excellence? We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Executive Director of Finance to lead all aspects of our financial operations and serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting, budgeting, payroll, room tax auditing and collection, financial reporting, debt management, and long-range financial planning. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with strategic vision, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to transparency, accountability, and public trust.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience in finance, accounting, or governmental financial administration.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex financial operations and managing high-performing teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of governmental accounting principles, GASB standards, financial reporting requirements, and Nevada Revised Statutes.
  • Experience with budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, debt management, and financial forecasting.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with financial management systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Experience working within a public agency, governmental entity, convention and visitors authority, or other public-sector organization.
  • Experience preparing Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFRs) and managing external audits.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership and oversight for all finance functions, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, revenue processing, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Serve as a key advisor to executive management and the Board of Directors on financial strategy, risk management, and organizational performance.
  • Develop financial forecasts, projections, and analyses to support long-term planning and informed decision-making.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations regarding capital investments, debt financing, refinancing opportunities, and other major financial initiatives.
  • Prepare and oversee accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for executive leadership and the Board.
  • Lead the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements and Nevada Revised Statutes.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Manage the annual external audit process and maintain strong relationships with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Direct the development and administration of the organization's annual budget.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide ongoing analysis and reporting to leadership, the Board, and state agencies.
  • Oversee debt service management and ensure compliance with all debt covenants.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and resource allocation.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and customer service excellence.
  • Establish and implement best practices, policies, procedures, and internal controls that support organizational goals.
  • Evaluate team performance and provide coaching, training, and professional development opportunities.
