About The Position

The Executive Director, Kamalei Support & Healing leads the strategic direction, design, and execution of direct service programs to improve outcomes for beneficiaries (kamalei) and their ʻohana. This role ensures programs are culturally grounded, data-informed, and aligned with LT’s long-term vision, while driving quality, innovation, and organizational effectiveness through strong partnerships, talent leadership, and integrated systems of care.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in education, social work, public health or related field.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a senior management or leadership position in a social services, government or non-profit organization.
  • Demonstrated experience including working with at-risk and under-served populations dealing with adverse childhood experiences, those impacted by trauma, poverty and other risk factors.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge and experience in organizational strategic planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge, understanding of leadership and management principles and practices.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge and understanding of the challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.
  • Knowledge of education; child development; planning and designing curricular programs.
  • Communicates clearly complex issues, both verbally and in writing. Is an effective public speaker. Works well and communicates effectively and professionally with aloha, among all levels of the organization and the public.
  • Models the highest level of ethics, integrity, LT values and social responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience working with staff at all levels in a highly complex, collaborative, environment; commitment and ability to promote and sustain positive workplace values and relationships

Responsibilities

  • Designs direct services program goals and objectives aligned with LT’s strategic plan; monitors and reports progress.
  • Develops a 3-5 year strategic roadmap aligned with LT’s 25-year strategic plan.
  • Leads the development of innovative service and engagement opportunities, using data, feedback, and cultural values and practices as compass.
  • Evaluates and strengthens Quality Assurance models to review practice, analyze results, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with public and private agencies to support integrated, multidisciplinary systems of care.
  • Partners with program leadership to implement systems that measure and track outcomes.
  • Provides overall management of direct service programs (excluding Lydia House and Liliʻuokalani Center), including planning, implementation, performance management, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversees workforce planning across programs, ensuring appropriate staffing models to meet service demands and build organizational capacity.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to program leadership, strengthening team capability and community relationships.
  • Leads the integration of innovative and effective practices to advance outcomes for Native Hawaiian kamalei.
  • Partners with internal and external experts to develop aligned college and career pathways.
  • Holds accountability for program quality, execution, staff performance, and family engagement; ensures compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides technical support to improve service quality, beneficiary impact, and program outcomes.
  • Ensures practices are culturally grounded, trauma-informed, data-driven, and rooted in equity and inclusion principles.
  • Collaborates with Executive and Managing Directors to ensure alignment and integrated service delivery statewide.
  • Supports the design and development of the Early Childhood initiative from launch through full operations; adjusts timelines and approach as needed.
  • Ensures the Early Childhood Center is grounded in best practices and Indigenous and Native Hawaiian frameworks through research and partnerships.
  • Develops policies and procedures across programs and operations, including administration, safety, and service delivery.
  • Designs a sustainable business plan aligned with the Early Childhood Centerʻs mission, supporting opportunity youth, parents, and children ages 0-5 toward kindergarten readiness and economic stability.
  • Prepares and manages the operational budget, including approving expenses, identifying adjustments, and stewarding the Queen’s resources responsibly.
  • Ensures services remain competitive and compliant with applicable state and federal regulations; partners with Risk and Compliance on safety and risk management.
  • Prepares and manages budgets across direct service programs, including forecasting, monitoring, and resource stewardship.
  • Holds overall responsibility for recruitment, development and retention of teammates; partners with POPs to ensure inclusive hiring and strong talent management practices.
  • Develops regular and ad hoc performance reports for Executive Leadership and Trustees.
  • Collaborates with Communications to support effective marketing and promotion of programs.
  • Contributes to LT’s success through collaboration, communication, and knowledge-sharing with all teammates to improve team and organizational results.
