About The Position

Alberta Technology and Innovation plays a strategic role within government to drive technology and innovation policy and strategy, and to create programs and tools that help grow Alberta’s economy, modernize government and provide better, faster and smarter government programs, services, and information. The ministry’s focus is to support the growth of Alberta’s technology and the innovation sector to make Alberta a destination of choice for entrepreneurs, innovators and investors; develop and deploy modern, accessible, secure, and sustainable government digital and data services that allow Albertans to more easily access services, and government to operate more efficiently; and ensure Albertans have strong privacy protection measures, and privacy is considered in all aspects of design, operation and management of digital services and projects. The ministry consists of the Department of Technology and Innovation, as well as its agencies: Alberta Innovates and Alberta Enterprise Corporation. Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Innovation, Privacy and Stewardship and Chief Privacy Officer, the Executive Director (ED) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for a branch of highly skilled professionals. The ED is responsible for designing and operationalizing partnerships, governance structures, policy frameworks, and accountability mechanisms that enable transformative innovation across government and with external partners. The ED leads the effective and efficient delivery of key projects and priorities from conception to completion, while providing executive-level counsel to the ADM and senior Government of Alberta leadership. The role builds and sustains trusted relationships with industry, post-secondary institutions, federal partners, and municipal governments, ensuring Alberta’s innovation investments deliver measurable outcomes for Albertans. The Ministry of Technology and Innovation holds a strategic mandate within the Government of Alberta to advance economic growth through technology, innovation policy, strategy, and programs. It modernizes government operations, enables the secure and efficient delivery of digital services, protects personal privacy through a design-first approach, and strengthens Alberta’s position as a destination of choice for entrepreneurs, researchers, innovators, and investors. Within the Ministry, the Innovation, Privacy and Stewardship Division, and specifically the Innovation Partnerships and Governance Branch, plays a critical role in advancing this mandate by supporting innovators, businesses, and researchers to drive economic growth, build partnerships, attract investment, and create jobs. The Branch leads key innovation strategies, including the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy (ATIS) and associated frameworks, provides governance oversight to Alberta Innovates and the Alberta Enterprise Corporation, and delivers programs that advance research, innovation, and technology development across priority sectors. Operating with an AI-forward approach, the Branch embeds AI enablement across all functions, leveraging AI to strengthen analysis and reporting, accelerate strategy development, and optimize program design and delivery, enhancing outcomes for clients, stakeholders, and Alberta’s broader innovation landscape.
