About The Position

The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB, providing a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment for seniors. BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter in Calgary, offering support services to women and children escaping abuse. BSF values a person-centered approach, emphasizing continuous improvement, innovation, engagement, and compassion. The Executive Director/General Manager will lead the Wentworth Manor site in Calgary, overseeing operations, team development, resident experience, and community engagement. This role drives strategic growth, cultivates a high-performance culture, and ensures excellence, safety, and belonging for all residents and staff. The title will transition from Executive Director to General Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Health Services, or related field required.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience, with proven ability to manage large facilities.
  • Demonstrated success in people leadership, budgeting, quality improvement, and change management.
  • Criminal Records Check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination (min. 2 doses) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or other professional clinical designation is a strong asset.
  • Experience in the seniors’ care or healthcare sector is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and resident-first care.
  • Align site performance with BSF’s strategic direction and organizational goals.
  • Oversee daily operations across all departments (care, hospitality, maintenance, dining, administration).
  • Lead program development and ensure quality standards and compliance are consistently met.
  • Inspire, mentor, and support a diverse multidisciplinary team.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, trust, and psychological safety.
  • Lead performance development, coaching, and accountability practices.
  • Manage operating budgets, identify efficiencies, and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Lead and support new projects and initiatives that drive innovation and resident satisfaction.
  • Foster strong partnerships with families, Alberta Health Services, local stakeholders, and community leaders.
  • Serve as the face of BSF within the local community.
