About The Position

Housed in the Division of Continuing, Professional & Online Education and reporting to the Vice Provost, the Director of Workforce & Academic Partnerships serves as the university’s lead business development officer for employer-sponsored education and workforce development programs, curating and developing necessary policy frameworks to guardrail success, and helping academic units develop partnerships and educational programs that will expand Stony Brook’s impact and generate sustainable new sources of revenue. Strong strategic planning, organizational leadership, and relationship-building skills are integral to success in this role. The incumbent must possess strong strategic planning, organizational leadership, and relationship-building skills.

Requirements

Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in business administration, higher education administration, or a related field.
Five (5) years of full-time experience and demonstrated success in building partnerships with industry partners and developing market-responsive educational programs.
Experience with leading revenue-generating educational initiatives or business development efforts.
Strong strategic planning, organizational leadership, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

Lead the curation and development of policies and procedures necessary to support successful academic partnerships and workforce development programs.
Architect creative programmatic solutions that address partner opportunities and lead to impactful relationships with employers, professional organizations, and public-sector partners interested in credit and non-credit workforce education programs.
Facilitate productive connections among employers, faculty, and relevant academic units to advance educational opportunities.
Represent SBU and the division of Continuing, Professional & Online Education at state, regional, and national workforce. employer, and government agency (e.g. Department of Labor) engagement activities.
Lead the customer discovery process that will result in promising workforce development partnerships.
Identify opportunities where employer’s needs align with existing academic programs, SBU capabilities, strengths, existing academic programs and faculty expertise.
Cultivate the development of a suite of programs that strategically align SBU strengths with employer needs, including those that involve proprietary partner data and/or that involve complex intellectual property rights
Monitor regional and national labor-market trends to ensure the university’s workforce and academic partnership portfolio remains relevant and responsive to employer needs across a wide variety of sectors.
Utilize data-driven insights and market intelligence to inform new initiative development and future academic programming.
Collaborate with deans, faculty, and academic leaders to develop employer-sponsored educational offerings (e.g. executive education, non-credit professional development certificates, micro credentials, and cohort-based academic programming).
Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, operational development, launch, and evaluation of workforce and academic partnership programs.
Ensure all programs have clearly articulated and aligned program-level learning outcomes.
Champion flexible program delivery options including online hybrid, on-site corporate training, on-site campus, and executive education formats.
Develop business models and partnership agreements that support program sustainability, revenue growth, and revenue sharing with academic units.
Develop, track, and report key operational and financial performance indicators and metrics
Provide supervision for the Director of the Center for Continuing Education (CCE) and other staff and graduate students anticipated with rapid growth of Academic Partnerships and Workforce Development programs.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.
