About The Position

Municipal Affairs assists municipalities to provide well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans. The ministry also fosters stronger, safer communities across the province and enables local governments to facilitate Alberta’s economic prosperity. Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Municipal Assessment and Grants Division, the Executive Director, Assessment Services Branch provides strategic direction to a multi-disciplinary, technical team of assessors and other professionals responsible for the valuation of all designated industrial property in Alberta. Fair, accurate and efficient assessment of these properties – including wells, pipelines, railway, telecommunications, and major industrial facilities – ensures an equitable distribution of tax obligations and predictable revenues for local and provincial governments. In this role, you will interpret legislation, regulation and assessment guidelines, making final assessment decisions and issuing interpretive directives under the authority of the Provincial Assessor. You will lead the provincial response to designated industrial assessment complaints and appeals, protecting the integrity and fairness of the assessment system. You will also work closely with internal and external partners to strengthen the assessment system through best practices, operational enhancements and policy advice.

Requirements

  • A proven senior leader with experience managing complex organizations, resources and relationships.
  • Ability to define clear goals and provide teams with the support and mentorship to achieve them.
  • Must be an accredited municipal assessor of Alberta (AMAA), or hold the Certified Assessment Evaluator (CAE) designation issued by the International Association of Assessing Officers, or the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI) designation issued by the Appraisal Institute of Canada, or have qualifications or experience that in the opinion of the Minister are equivalent.
