About The Position

Chartwells K-12 is hiring an Executive Chef for a school district in South Windsor, Connecticut. The Executive Chef leads kitchen operations, reporting to the Director, and is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary workplace while overseeing compliance, training, and accountability. The role involves developing menus, supporting staff, and ensuring efficient foodservice operations in a K-12 setting.

Requirements

At least two years of culinary or kitchen management experience.
Hands-on chef experience.
Knowledge of food trends, quality, production, sanitation, cost control, and presentation.
Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office and email systems.
Willingness to participate in client satisfaction programs and activities.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in culinary arts or equivalent experience.
Catering experience.
Experience in complex foodservice operations, including institutional and batch cooking.
ServSafe certification.

Responsibilities

Develop regular and specialty menus in line with K-12 standards, adhering to portioning and presentation guidelines.
Train kitchen staff in food preparation, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
Establish and maintain cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment and work areas.
Manage food and supply inventory to optimize utilization and ensure vital products are available.
Ensure compliance with health and sanitation regulations by following department procedures and participating in audits.
Participate in departmental meetings, staff development initiatives, and professional programs to stay current with industry trends.
Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient dining service operations.
