ABOUT PARK BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND VISIT GALVESTON In 1963, the citizens of Galveston voted to create a specialized unit of government known as the Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston. The organization is responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB), and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). The Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) revenue and beach user fees collected from the parks it manages. Tourism pays for tourism, as the Park Board does not collect sales or property taxes. The nine-member Board is comprised of volunteer residents with diverse professional and business backgrounds who each serve a minimum two-year term and participate on advisory committees. Our mission is to promote and support tourism on Galveston Island while fostering an environment that creates a great place to live, work, and visit. We strive to create a destination that offers an exciting variety of experiences while enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Galveston Island offers unique natural resources, attractions, events, and coastal heritage that we are proud to share with the community and visitors from around the world. Our employees are passionate about showcasing the island and creating memorable experiences for all who visit.
