About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Executive Administrative Support Specialist for the A5/8 directorate, performing as the single point of contact for a wide variety of executive, administrative, protocol, budget and official functions trips in support of Directorate objectives and AMC command's mission. Duties include performing executive, administrative, and analytical support services for the A5/A8 directorate and senior staffs. This role provides Protocol support for the directorate and serves as the principal trip specialist for the Director and senior staff by performing a wide variety of travel advisory support functions. The specialist acts as the single focal point for all official travel by the Director and Two Deputy Directors, Strategy, Plans, Requirements, and Programs, Air Mobility Command. This position also manages Directorate resources for executive administrative support, services and activities, and independently plans and performs complex administrative support duties requiring different approaches and methods from one assignment to another.

  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • Applying in-depth knowledge of administrative concepts, principles, and practices sufficient to perform independently such as eliminating conflict and duplication in extensive office procedures; determining when new procedures are needed; systematically studying and evaluating new policies, methodologies; and procedures and recommending acceptance or rejection of their use.
  • Identifying, analyzing and recommending solutions to problems in administrative procedures, work processes, and workload distribution.
  • Providing comprehensive knowledge of administrative management guidance, civilian and military protocol, military services regulations and standards of conduct.
  • Analyzing and measuring effectiveness of the programs within organization to develop and implement efficient and effective administrative policies and procedures using qualitative and quantitative techniques.
  • Demonstrating skill in all aspects of written and oral communications, knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools and techniques to support office operations and produce variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs, etc.
  • Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
  • Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
  • Knowledge and skill in researching, analyzing, evaluating a variety of DoD and AMC executive administrative and information support guidelines and policies, and resolving problems and issues quickly and accurately to support the directorate's program effectiveness and organizational productivity.
  • Knowledge and general understanding of the Air Mobility Command (AMC) and the Department of Defense (DOD), Joint Staff, other Services, Major Commands, and military and civilian traditions, customs, travel requirements and goals to interact with management officials within internal and external organizations to successfully apply military protocol, etiquette manuals and guides, USAF and Command policies, regulations, agency policy, practices and procedures to organize and oversee protocol events.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to successfully apply standard protocol courtesies to be accorded to distinguished visitors primarily from the United States and within the Department of Defense to establish and maintain a harmonious working relationship with all levels of management and staff members within and outside of the directorate, to include senior military and civilian leaders at higher echelons, foreign and civilian dignitaries, and individuals in local and other government agencies.
  • Knowledge of various computer information systems, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of correspondence and documents.
  • Ability to interpret existing regulatory guidelines and develop directorate guidelines, instructions, supplements and/or procedures to independently plan individual workload to meet deadlines and coordinate event support requirements with a variety of organizations utilizing office automation software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, manage and/or resolve complex issues and maintain good working relationships.
  • Practical knowledge of pertinent budgeting and accounting practices and procedures to project, monitor, and document collection and expenditure of funds.
