About The Position

The Executive Accountant I performs a level position responsible for a range of financial records, transactions, and analysis to ensure the accuracy, integrity, completeness, and compliance of the County’s financial objectives across various business segments. This role utilizes accounting expertise to assist and support higher level personnel in decision-making by providing clear financial insights, forecasting, reporting, and analysis in their job objectives. This position is required, as directed, to report onsite before, during, and after emergency events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a major in accounting plus at least 3 years of financial accounting experience, preferably in a government setting.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret program user guides, professional journals, technical writings, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, flow charts, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Critical thinking and ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, and/or schedule form.
  • Considerable knowledge of contemporary technology tools, information systems, computer hardware and software, and security administration.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using work processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Must be well organized.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and maintain financial records, analysis, reconciliations, and reporting for County funds, cost centers, and other business segments as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records, identifying process improvements, and supporting alignment of financial practices with organizational skills.
  • Account analysis and prepare journal entries as needed.
  • Responsible and oversee the financial records for Metropolitan Planning Origination (MPO).
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and other periodic reporting and billings of assigned business projects.
  • Responsible for reconciling and related accounting records of capital assets, construction in progress (CIP), and fiduciary funds.
  • Responsible for reconciling and related accounting for debt and leases.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Maintain the ledger and oversee reconciliations of accounts, funds, and financial systems.
  • Assist with year-end audit and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
