About The Position

The Roger Bacon Academy is seeking outstanding applicants to teach Exceptional Children (EC) who have a degree in Education and a passion for inspiring young minds. The academy provides support through a dedicated Beginning Teacher Coordinator and Academic Coaches, offering engaging training and support. This position is potentially eligible for an additional Teacher Supplement on top of the base pay, which is determined by the North Carolina State Salary Scale for Bachelor's Degrees. The core mission of the academy is to teach the rules and techniques for effective expression and communication in the arts and sciences, to communicate understandings of the universe and our role in it, and to instill a love of learning and discovery, fostering a lifelong dedication to health, truth, and virtue. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education is required.
  • Valid teaching certificate from North Carolina in the area for which the candidate is applying.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of equipment and classroom tools including computers, copiers, etc.
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and /or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
  • Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
  • Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments or directions from superiors.
  • Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under stress and confronted with emergency situations.
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when a student is participating in an inclusive activity.
  • Ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Ability to perform clerical duties.
  • Ability to maintain basic files and records.
  • Ability to operate common office machines.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry 20 lbs. and dexterity to perform the duties & responsibilities of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Provides special education services to students identified as having a disability in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Develops and implements the Individual Education Plan (IEP) in classroom settings compatible with the student’s age and developmental level.
  • Develops lesson plans, adapts materials, and designs activities to assist EC students in developing academic, behavioral, and social skills, and meeting IEP goals.
  • Monitors student progress and maintains EC records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Develops and implements instructional plans compatible with school-wide curricular goals and students’ Individual Education Plans.
  • Develops, implements, and updates IEPs for students with disabilities using diagnostic information from tests and assessment procedures.
  • Provides direct special education instruction to identified students.
  • Employs various teaching methods to meet student needs, adapting or developing materials as necessary.
  • Monitors student behavior, maintains classroom discipline, deescalates inappropriate behaviors, and teaches appropriate behavioral strategies.
  • Restrains students when necessary (if certified) and records and reports restraints.
  • Assists disabled students with personal and self-help needs (e.g., eating, toileting).
  • Communicates with parents regarding their children’s educational progress through periodic written progress reports.
  • Acts as a case manager for assigned students and consults with community caregivers, school support professionals, and parents.
  • Maintains student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and services for Children with Disabilities and complies with state and federal education statutes.
  • Treats all students fairly and equitably, interacting effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community.
  • Follows a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth.
