About The Position

The Exceptional Children's Teacher (EC Teacher) is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction to guide and encourage students in developing and fulfilling their academic potential, and contributing to their educational and social development. This role involves differentiating instruction, managing classroom behavior, consulting with various stakeholders, and performing non-instructional duties as assigned. The teacher is expected to demonstrate leadership in the classroom and school, establish a respectful environment for a diverse student population, know and align instruction with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, facilitate learning through various methods, and reflect on their practice for continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in subject area.
  • NC Teaching License or have qualifications to obtain a NC teaching license.
  • Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards.
  • Ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
  • Knowledge of diverse cultures.
  • Ability to collaborate with specialists.
  • Ability to improve communication and collaboration between the school and the home and community.
  • Knowledge of how students think and learn.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and use a variety of data sources for planning.

Responsibilities

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Plan, coordinate, and continuously improve instruction that facilitates active learning.

  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Manage instructional time and student behavior by establishing rules and procedures.
