Requirements

  • Minimum OSHA 10 certification required
  • Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, and understand site layout.
  • Knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations, and maintenance.
  • Maintain safe and secure work environment by complying with government standards and legal regulations.
  • Practice good safety habits.
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, and techniques.
  • Follow instructions and meet set standards.
  • Judge distances and slopes accurately.
  • Communicate with supervisors, peers, and/or subordinates.
  • Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in civil or road construction, preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL and equipment certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment, primarily excavators, in support of construction activities
  • May operate additional equipment such as: Loaders, Backhoes, Dozers, Graders, Skid steers, Rollers, Forklifts or other site-specific machinery
  • Perform excavation-related tasks, including digging, trenching, grading, lifting, and material handling
  • Excavate for utilities such as water, sewer, and storm systems with precision and care
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety issues promptly
  • Follow site plans, grade stakes, and/or GPS machine control systems
  • Work closely with ground crews, pipelayers, and site supervisors to complete work accurately
  • Maintain constant awareness of surroundings to avoid damage to underground utilities, structures, or personnel
  • Assist with manual labor and general site duties when equipment operation is not required
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, traffic control regulations, and equipment operating standards
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment at the end of each shift
  • Perform other labor-related tasks as assigned by supervisors
