Excavator Operator for Grading Operations

About The Position

Sanford Contractors is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and safety-focused Excavator Operator for its Grading Operations division. The role involves safely and efficiently operating production excavators, such as CAT 345, 346, and 349 models, on site-grading and earth-moving projects. The operator also performs equipment checks, supports utility location and material handling, helps maintain a safe worksite, and communicates equipment issues to the Pipe/Grade Foreman. The position involves outdoor work in varied weather and work around trenches and uneven terrain, with frequent physical activity.

Requirements

Strong communication skills in English.
Working knowledge of OSHA standards.
Attention to detail.
Dependable and professional work ethic.
Ability to lift more than 50 lbs and regularly bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders.
Ability to shovel and rake frequently, use hand tools, and handle materials around trenches or uneven terrain.
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

MSHA Part 46 certification.
Trenching and Shoring Competent Person certification.

Responsibilities

Safely and efficiently operate production excavators for site-grading and earth-moving projects.
Perform daily fluid and equipment checks.
Assist with utility location.
Unload materials and rig loads safely.
Keep equipment clean and report issues promptly to the Pipe/Grade Foreman.
Practice site safety, recognize hazards, and correct them.
Lead by example and mentor crew members.
Attend daily project huddles.
