About The Position

Under the supervision of a foreman or lead, the Excavator Operator operates heavy machinery—including forklifts, backhoes, excavators, dozers, skid steer loaders, track loaders, and rubber tire loaders—to move earth, rocks, and debris on construction sites. The role is responsible for layouts, fine grading, trenching and pit excavations, finishing applications, and hoisting. The operator also ensures equipment is well maintained and operating efficiently.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least three years of related experience and/or training.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Ability to exert heavy physical effort and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb, or crawl.
• Ability to tolerate heights without fear and maintain balance.

Nice To Haves

• OSHA 10 certification; training will be arranged if the candidate does not have it.

Responsibilities

• Set up and use rotating and slope lasers to establish level and sloping grades.
• Maintain production during fine-grade operations, including placement of rock trucks; ensure the required grade is obtained; and determine equipment needs and rock delivery rates.
• Control and maintain layout lines during trenching and pit excavations.
• Maintain OSHA standards for benching and slopes during and after excavation, and determine suitable lay-back or benching based on soil type and safe working conditions.
• Determine the amount and placement of on-site spoils to retain for backfill, avoiding wet conditions.
• Determine the number of spoil trucks needed to maintain continuous work without truck buildup or idle equipment, and select the required equipment.
• Determine equipment needed to achieve required compaction and backfill in consistent, level lifts.
• Ensure equipment is well maintained and operating efficiently.
