About The Position

Operate one or several types of powered construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material. The position involves operating vehicles and heavy equipment while maintaining and repairing roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on surfaces ranging from smooth to extremely rough. The operator may also instruct and train employees in safe equipment and tool operation, job techniques, and skills.

Requirements

May require a high school diploma or equivalent and previous experience in the field or a related area.
Must possess working knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management and supervision.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.
Able to meet all physical requirements.
Must have all required tools.
Able to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces, which may exceed 200 feet.
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by workload.

Responsibilities

Operate vehicles and heavy construction equipment while maintaining and repairing roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping materials.
Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; and spread rock and gravel.
Trench and construct ditches for culvert, water-pipe, and sewer-pipe installation; remove silt and debris.
Check and maintain equipment fluid levels and lubrication.
May instruct and train employees in the safe operation of construction equipment and tools and in job techniques and skills.
Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the causes of errors, problems, or defects.
Observe and comply with safety and project rules.
Perform other duties as required.
