About The Position

The Laundry and Housekeeping Technician supports the overall functionality and cleanliness of the facility by performing essential environmental services tasks. This position is responsible for collecting, processing, and returning all soiled linens in accordance with proper washing, drying, and folding procedures, while maintaining awareness of both the soiled and clean sides of the laundry department. In addition, the technician ensures that all areas of the facility remain orderly, clean, sanitary, and visually pleasant to promote a safe, healing environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently or with staff in collaborative manner.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including vision, hearing, repetitive motion, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in housekeeping/janitorial services is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and uphold the mission, ethics, and goals of Johnson County Hospital.
  • Maintain professional, cooperative working relationships with all departments through high-quality service and open communication.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the facility layout to ensure effective performance of assigned duties.
  • Participate in the training of new staff when assigned.
  • Attend committee, subcommittee, departmental, QA, and other required meetings.
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance activities as directed.
  • Remain current on laundry and housekeeping practices through in-service education, evaluations, departmental meetings, and ongoing professional engagement with peers.
  • Report to work as scheduled and notify the EVS Manager promptly when unable to report.
  • Clock out when conducting personal business or when leaving hospital grounds for non-hospital purposes.
  • Maintain a neat, clean appearance in accordance with hospital dress code standards.
  • Wear appropriate PPE for all assigned tasks.
  • Wear hospital-issued identification while on duty.
  • Maintain adequate linen supply levels throughout the facility and procure replacement linens from storerooms as needed.
  • Ensure all linens are processed according to departmental standards for washing, drying, folding, and storage.
  • Report on linen quality concerns to Materials Management.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of new linens for the facility.
  • Maintain knowledge of laundry chemicals, including proper use, application, storage, restrictions, and disposal.
  • Maintain required departmental records, including water temperature logs and equipment maintenance documentation.
  • Demonstrate operational knowledge of laundry equipment, including washers and dryers.
  • Demonstrate proper folding techniques for all linen types handled by the department.
  • Maintain adequate janitorial supply levels and procure replacements as needed, reporting concerns to Materials Management.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of janitorial supplies.
  • Maintain knowledge of cleaning chemicals, including proper use, application, storage, restrictions, and disposal.
  • Complete and maintain all required housekeeping records, including water monitor checklists, time schedules, floor refinishing logs, special cleaning documentation, equipment inventories, and divider curtain laundering records.
  • Demonstrate operational knowledge of housekeeping equipment, including vacuums, carpet machines, extractors, and buffers.
  • Apply proper cleaning techniques to all assigned surfaces and areas while preventing cross-contamination.
  • Perform room and floor maintenance tasks in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, orderliness, and operational readiness of the department and facility to the best of their ability.
  • Notify Maintenance or other appropriate personnel when issues arise that exceed departmental capabilities.
  • Prioritize departmental tasks effectively to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary by Hospital Administration or the Environmental Services Manager in support of departmental and facility operations, including tasks that may vary daily based on operational or patient-care needs.
