About The Position

The Head of SBA Lending is responsible for the management and strategic direction of the Bank’s Small Business Administration (SBA) lending platform providing end-to-end oversight. This role leads all aspects of SBA loan origination, closing, funding, servicing, and compliance to ensure a quality, profitable portfolio aligned with the Bank’s financial and strategic objectives while maintaining full adherence to bank policy and SBA Standard Operating Procedures. Core responsibilities include evaluating loan opportunities using strong credit expertise and extensive knowledge of the various SBA programs to structure eligible well-designed loan proposals while servicing a portfolio of client relationships. A key partner to Commercial Relationship Managers, the Director provides expert guidance on SBA eligibility, deal strategy and prospecting to expand SBA production and enhance profitability. The Director also leads all internal and external SBA reporting and serves as the primary point of communication with the SBA while leading and managing the SBA Department personnel.

Requirements

  • Business Degree with emphasis in accounting, finance, or marketing as well as five years of previous commercial lending experience (relevant work experience may substitute for the degree requirement) is required.
  • Extensive working knowledge of SBA lending policies and procedures is necessary.
  • Leadership as well as management experience is required.
  • Ability to analyze and understand financial statements of various business types as well as personal financial statements and tax returns is necessary to present a loan presentation to a committee.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to prioritize work to execute tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal are necessary.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills in order to ascertain and respond to customer needs and objectives to advance the client relationship and meet the Bank's objectives.
  • Strong personal drive and initiative demonstrated work ethic, and ability to work independently and in a team are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and related computer applications is also required.
  • Incumbent must be able to work with limited supervision.

  • Formal credit training is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to Commercial RMs, SBA prospects and customers to craft a beneficial solution while maintaining compliance with bank loan policy, credit culture and the SBA Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Implement business development strategies and conduct various sales support activities to increase loan production and profitability to the Bank.
  • Oversee the various SBA reporting functions both internally and externally.
  • Create and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient processes.
  • Manage the overall operations of SBA staff and their performance to include hiring and training.
  • Participate in cross-selling efforts bank-wide.
  • Participate in local, regional and national industry specific trade associations and training opportunities.
  • Conduct business development efforts to proactively source new prospects.
