Evolutionary Cell Biology Fellow

Arcadia Science•Emeryville, CA
•$8,000 - $12,000•Onsite

About The Position

Arcadia Science is an evolutionary biology company founded and led by scientists. Its mission is to turn natural innovations into real-world solutions by developing systematic and quantitative approaches to leveraging biology for therapeutics R&D, while sharing research openly to accelerate discovery. The Evolutionary Cell Biology Fellow will join the Validation team for a three-month fellowship, helping close the design–build–test–learn loop through laboratory validation across diverse organisms. Fellows generate phenotypic and genotypic data to compare cellular features across organisms and contribute to a defined project intended for open publication by the end of the fellowship. The role is intended for scientists who recently completed a PhD or are in the final stages of postdoctoral training. The fellowship is based on-site at Arcadia's Emeryville, California lab and office for its full duration. Visa sponsorship and travel or relocation support may be available for qualified candidates relocating temporarily to the Bay Area. The selection process includes in-person interviews and a short practical work test; offers are contingent on reference and background checks.

Requirements

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in cell- or organism-based assay development.
  • Proficiency with core cell biology tools and techniques.
  • Comfort with core molecular biology tools and techniques.
  • Comfort working with diverse cellular organisms and systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with data analysis using Python or R.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: cell-based or organism-based assay development and optimization; live-cell imaging, high-content screening, or other high-dimensional phenotyping approaches; development or use of diverse cellular organisms and systems, including non-model organisms; molecular biology techniques such as cloning, transformation, PCR, genetic manipulation, and protein detection; protocol development and adaptation for new organisms or cell types; comparative analysis between species driven by evolutionary information; or quantitative approaches to phenotypic measurement.
  • Recently completed a PhD or being in the final stages of postdoctoral training.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, adapt, and optimize experimental workflows for gathering phenotypic data across diverse cellular and organismal systems.
  • Validate platform tools and test predictions using cell-based or organism-based assays.
  • Troubleshoot experimental challenges independently and creatively.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to contribute to shared research goals.
