This role involves hanging live birds onto an overhead shackle line from a live bird hanging conveyor. The Live Hanger retrieves birds from the conveyor and hangs them on the overhead shackle line. From a standing position, the individual picks up and hangs live birds weighing approximately 3.5-6.5 pounds by both legs in shackles at shoulder height, 16 inches from the body, at a rate of approximately 0.5 per minute. The hanger controls the feed rate of the hanging conveyor and the flow of birds. Duties also include transporting DOA's and dumping them onto the dead bird take-away conveyor. This position requires the use of both hands and arms, standing on a metal platform for up to 8 hours with breaks, and the ability to tolerate dark/dusty environments. The role is critical to ensuring consistent production flow and operational flexibility in a fresh food manufacturing environment.
