About The Position

Performs functions as the inmate work release coordinator/ Evidence to include but not limited to the supervision and transportation of state inmates approved to be in the inmate work trustees program for maintenance and cleaning duties inside and outside of the corrections facility. Performs functions as the evidence manager and technician for all evidence within the department. Responsible for evidence dispositions, evidence destruction, and testifying in court on the proper chain of custody. Must be SFO, BCO or LEO Certified.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Possess a valid Utah driver's license at the time of hire
  • A citizen of the United States
  • A resident of the State of Utah
  • No disqualifying criminal history
  • No DUI convictions in the past two years
  • Successfully pass a written examination as determined by the department
  • Successfully pass a physical fitness test as determined by the department
  • Pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug testing and psychological evaluation
  • Required to be eligible to attend the Utah POST and become SFO,BCO or LEO Certified.
  • Required to work rotating shift schedule and be willing to work on-call hours as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of Computer systems and software applications.
  • Skilled in the use of the department's computer operating systems.
  • Basic Evidence processing class and knowledge of the State Crime Labs evidence intake program.
  • Successfully pass departmental firearms qualifications(s) required for any armed assignment.
  • Certified in CPR and AED and maintain department Daily Training Bulletins (DTB).
  • Ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations, use of judgment for people and situations.
  • Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Establish effective work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of Policies and Procedures of the Detention Facility.
  • Knowledge of first aid.
  • Knowledge of Utah State Laws.
  • Must be able to maintain self-control when serving upset employees
  • Must be able to resolve problems of varying degrees.
  • Must possess a Valid Utah Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to hold guarded all secure, private and confidential information and data
  • Ability to respond to call-outs.
  • Will be required to submit to a comprehensive police background check and clearance through B.C.I. (Bureau of Criminal Identification).
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to convey complex, technical concepts in a manner that is understandable to others.
  • Ability to solicit and maintain cooperative relationships with contractors and co-workers
  • Must be cheerful and courteous in all dealings with the public and co-workers
  • Obtain and maintain B.C.I. clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • A specialty in Evidence processing i.e. Fingerprinting, DNA collection, Photography, Crime Scene Reconstruction or other as approved by the Sheriff.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the inmate work release coordinator
  • Assist in the corrections facility as needed with inmate transports/movements and searches and daily duties of Jail Correctional staff.
  • Assist in the care and handling of detention inmates as assigned
  • Escort inmates within the confines of the facility; prepares inmates for transportation to job sites
  • Required to take trustee inmates to job sites and supervise those inmates. performing general maintenance of the corrections facility to include but not limited to the cleaning of the sally port, snow removal including applying ice melt, removing snow from parked county vehicles, landscaping, and weeding, cleaning windows, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning the administrative areas, and cleaning lobby area.
  • Responsible for inmate security while performing trustee duties outside of the facility
  • Supervise and maintain control of those inmates working as trustees.
  • Screening minimum security inmates
  • Overseeing work release and the Sheriff inmate labor program (SILP).
  • Evidence custodian and property manager for all evidence within the Sheriff's Office.
  • Ordering, organizing, and tracking of all jail supplies within in the jail including inmate supplies.
