About The Position

The Evidence-Based Healthy Program Instructor is responsible for delivering YMCA-approved evidence-based health and wellness programs designed to improve the overall well-being, health outcomes, and quality of life for participants. This position leads structured programs such as the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL), and other evidence-based initiatives by providing education, encouragement, accountability, and support in a safe and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • Experience leading group programs, health education, fitness, wellness, or community-based programming preferred.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required within 60 days of employment.
  • Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Previous customer service; ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite (excel, word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with HIPPA regulations.
  • Previous NDPP teaching experience.
  • One year of supervisor and/or management experience.
  • One year of experience with data entry or word processor.
  • Any form of continuing education related to data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate evidence-based health and wellness programs following established curriculum, guidelines, and program standards.
  • Lead group sessions including health education, physical activity components, discussions, and participant engagement activities.
  • Create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment where participants feel comfortable sharing goals, challenges, and progress.
  • Educate participants on healthy lifestyle behaviors including physical activity, nutrition, wellness strategies, and disease prevention/management.
  • Encourage participant accountability through goal setting, progress tracking, and ongoing support.
  • Demonstrate and safely lead appropriate exercises and modifications based on participant abilities and needs.
  • Monitor participant engagement, attendance, and progress while maintaining accurate program.
  • Complete required reporting, assessments, and data collection according to program requirements.
  • Provide individualized encouragement and resources to help participants achieve their wellness goals.
  • Communicate effectively with YMCA staff, community partners, and participants regarding program updates and needs.
  • Maintain current certifications, training, and knowledge related to assigned evidence-based programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
