About The Position

The Student Union sits in the heart of the Boise State campus and serves as the central hub for students, faculty, and staff. We develop students as lifelong learners by delivering an array of cultural, educational, social, and recreational programs, events, services, and facilities. This role applies basic skills while developing some specialized skills in procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment appropriate to area of specialization; performs routine and/or repetitive tasks; limited decision making required; generally works under close supervision; has no or limited experience; work is performed from within specific limits of established procedures and/or defined instructions.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Must have sufficient speech and hearing acuity to perform customer service activities.
  • Knowledge of fire safety codes and ADA guidelines
  • Some knowledge of: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers.
  • Experience providing customer service
  • Experience explaining and applying policies and procedures
  • Experience using tools, equipment, materials and common practices used in facility preparation including custodial work
  • Experience setting work priorities
  • Experience interpreting written oral instructions

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive custodial, facilities, and basic maintenance services for the Student Union, Special Events Center, Alumni & Friends Center, and other auxiliary buildings, including outdoors and event locations. Responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness, functionality of facilities through restroom cleaning, trash removal, vent dusting and degreasing, carpet extraction, hard floor care, and other routine custodial services.
  • Perform basic facility and equipment maintenance, including cleaning, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, and push sweepers.
  • Monitors facility cleanliness to ensure spaces remain safe, clean, and welcoming for students, staff, and guests, and completes special projects and additional assignments as needed to support departmental and campus operations.
  • Applies knowledge of fire safety codes and ADA guidelines to determine correct aisle width and safe entries and exits; observes facility and equipment to ensure compliance with risk management objectives and public safety; observes, responds to, and reports unusual occurrences such as theft, vandalism, illness, and drug and alcohol related problems; recommends safety and security solutions.
  • Responds to emergency situations and may be a point of contact.
  • Provides customer service and communicates with facility users to ensure event needs are met; assesses and resolves customer complaints.
  • Assists customers and visitors with directions and information regarding events.
  • Uses feedback to report program success and customer satisfaction.
  • Evacuates customers in emergencies.
  • Completes building opening and/or lockdown procedures and opening or securing event spaces.
  • Serves as a point of contact for the Westmark Student Union Building before and/or after building hours are closed or in place of a Manager on Duty.
  • Provides event equipment setup in the Westmark Student Union, Alumni & Friends Center, Special Events Center, outdoor spaces, and other campus event facilities.
  • Performs custodial and facilities services for the Student Union, Special Events Center, Alumni & Friends Center, and other food service and event locations on campus.
  • Participates in and supports workplace safety and emergency procedures in the Westmark Student Union.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
