About The Position

Oakland Venue Management (OVM) is seeking dependable, service-minded individuals to join their Event Operations & Production team. This part-time, as-needed role supports various aspects of event production, including setup and breakdown, guest services, onsite operations, event coordination, venue management, and audio-visual production. OVM welcomes applicants at different career stages, from entry-level to experienced professionals, and may consider candidates for multiple assignment types based on their qualifications and availability. Requirements

  • Reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, teamwork, and willingness to learn are essential.
  • At least one year of relevant event, hospitality, venue, or customer service experience with demonstrated communication and problem-solving skills.
  • At least two years of event production or venue operations experience, including demonstrated experience leading teams and independently managing events.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to independently set up, test, operate, and troubleshoot assigned AV systems during live events.
  • Should have relevant equipment familiarity and be able to provide technical support under the direction of a lead technician or engineer.
  • Prior experience in event production, stagehand work, warehouse work, or physical logistics is preferred.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and follow-through.
  • Professional and welcoming communication with clients, guests, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Ability to follow instructions, venue procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced event environment.
  • Flexibility to work event-based schedules.
  • Availability for some evenings, weekends, early mornings, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel to assigned venues throughout Oakland and the Bay Area.

  • For setup, stagehand, and certain AV assignments, the ability to lift and carry equipment or furnishings weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in events, warehousing, hospitality, customer service, or physical logistics is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the physical setup, operation, and breakdown of events under the direction of an onsite lead.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize event equipment and supplies.
  • Set up tables, chairs, signage, barricades, furnishings, and other event materials according to event layouts.
  • Assist clients and vendors during load-in and load-out.
  • Support guest directions, parking, and traffic flow.
  • Maintain venue cleanliness and replenish supplies.
  • Assist with waste management and venue upkeep.
  • Complete venue resets following the events.
  • Return equipment and materials to designated storage areas.
  • Follow instructions, venue procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Assist with other event operations as assigned.
  • Support Event Managers with onsite logistics, guest service, staff coordination, and successful event execution.
  • Assist with event timelines and run-of-show.
  • Welcome and guide guests, vendors, and clients.
  • Monitor access points and help maintain clear guest circulation and emergency exits.
  • Respond to routine questions and concerns and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Communicate assignments and operational updates to event staff.
  • Assist with staff coverage and breaks.
  • Conduct cleanliness and venue readiness checks.
  • Support opening, event execution, closing, and venue reset.
  • Perform Event Staff and Setup responsibilities when needed.
  • Lead onsite event operations from setup through closing and serve as a primary onsite contact for clients, vendors, and staff.
  • Review event plans, staffing assignments, venue requirements, and timelines.
  • Direct staff during setup, event execution, breakdown, and venue reset.
  • Coordinate client and vendor access.
  • Oversee the event run-of-show.
  • Address operational concerns and last-minute changes within assigned authority.
  • Follow venue emergency procedures and appropriately escalate incidents.
  • Verify completion of closing procedures, venue reset, equipment storage, and building security requirements.
  • Complete post-event reports.
  • Document incidents, damages, operational concerns, and follow-up needs.
  • Provide professional leadership to staff while maintaining excellent client and guest service.
  • Provide technical and production support for live events.
  • Set up, test, operate, and break down audio and video equipment.
  • Support microphones, speakers, displays, presentations, playback systems, and related event technology.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during live events.
  • Communicate technical needs and concerns with Event Managers, clients, and production teams.
  • Maintain safe cable routes and equipment setups.
  • Pack, store, and maintain equipment following events.
  • Support production load-in, strike, and load-out.
  • Move and position staging, equipment, and production materials.
  • Assist with general event setup and breakdown when needed.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $20.00–$45.00 per hour, depending on assignment, experience, demonstrated skills, and responsibilities
  • Team members may be considered for additional responsibilities and higher-level assignments as they gain experience, complete training, demonstrate strong performance, and develop the required technical or leadership skills.
