About The Position

The University Place Event Team, comprising the Marketing Director, Event Planner, and Event Staff, is responsible for organizing approximately 150 public events annually. These events include weekly story times, outdoor movie nights, cultural festivals, and holiday celebrations, with many taking place outdoors in the Orchard. University Place is currently seeking resumes for a Part-Time Event Staff position. Under the guidance of the Event Planner, this role involves assisting with the logistics and execution of events, including setup, coordination, managing activities, and cleanup. The position also entails assisting with event preparations, vendor research, updating online content, and providing customer service to attendees. A significant portion of the work involves physical labor and takes place in an outdoor environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of conflict resolution and general customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced organization
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal (including phone work) and written communication skills
  • Basic computer processing skills (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects, such as tables and stage sections repeatedly
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor environment in variety of weather conditions
  • Must be able to work Monday-Saturday days and nights

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work in special events preferred
  • College coursework or comparable work experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of audio equipment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with carrying out and coordination of events
  • Event set up and logistics
  • Managing booths/activities
  • Event clean up
  • Assisting with event errands in preparation of the events
  • Assisting with set up and take down of event equipment including tables and staging
  • Assisting with setup, operation, takedown of audio equipment
  • Assisting with vendor research including back and forth communication to obtain pricing details, deadlines
  • Assisting with ensuring the events content on the website and social media sites are up to date
  • Assisting in communications and customer service with event attendees including giving directions, answering questions, and crowd control
  • Physical labor including setting up and taking down stages, seasonal displays and event equipment
  • Other assignments as given
