About The Position

Under the direction of the operation’s leadership, the Event Services Attendant is responsible for providing superior guest service at various event locations including The Pyramid and Blair Field. Tasks will be performed in a quick and efficient manner, such as greeting customers, collecting payment, preparing and assembling food and beverage orders. Safeguards company, customer, and campus assets.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess a high school diploma or high school equivalent.
  • Hold a valid California Driver’s License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Completion of the Beach Shops Driver Safety Program within 30 days of hire.
  • Possess a California Food Handler Card and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification, or the ability to obtain both within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including safety procedures.
  • Effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to understand and comply with University and Beach Shops policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, package, and serve food and beverages for concessions and events, including high‑volume items such as burgers, chicken tenders, fries, hot dogs, and prepared meats, ensuring quality, consistency, and proper presentation.
  • Operate and monitor large‑volume cooking equipment such as BBQ grills, ovens, fryers, and mobile cooking equipment in accordance with established recipes, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and food safety standards by cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, utensils, and equipment before, during, and after each event, following cleaning calendars and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure food quality control and inventory accountability by minimizing food spoilage, properly storing products, checking inventory in and out, stocking workstations, and being accountable for all assigned inventory.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of menu items and allergen information and deliver high‑quality products while adhering to Beach Shops, City of Long Beach, and campus rules and regulations.
  • Provide customer service support as needed, including greeting guests, taking orders, processing payments, and ensuring a positive guest experience in a fast‑paced event environment.
  • Address any issues or concerns raised by guests, aiming to resolve them to their satisfaction and escalating concerns to immediate supervisor as needed.
  • Assist with event set‑up and breakdown, including transporting food, equipment, and catering orders to on‑campus and off‑campus locations using company vehicles and carts.
  • Maintain cleanliness of concession and event areas, including bussing and cleaning tables, managing beverage and condiment stations, operating dishwashers, removing trash, and resetting service areas after events.
  • Collaborate with concessions and event staff to ensure efficient operations, seamless service, and timely food delivery across all venues.
  • Follow alcohol service guidelines in compliance with California Alcoholic Beverage Control and campus regulations when applicable.
  • Cross-train and work across all Beach Shops and CSULB venues, supporting a variety of events and operational needs.
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
