About The Position

Right at Home West LA is seeking a dedicated, reliable, and compassionate Personal Care Assistant with PureWick experience to provide evening care for a lovely couple in Santa Monica, CA. The primary focus is supporting a 91-year-old male client living with ALS. He is in a weakened state, experiences left-sided weakness, and is a high fall risk. He requires dedicated standby assistance to remain safe, comfortable, and as independent as possible in his home. The client has a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) order in place, which must be respected. There is also a camera in the apartment used by the family for safety and monitoring purposes.

Requirements

  • Must have hands-on experience with the PureWick External Catheter system.
  • Proven experience caring for clients with ALS, progressive neurological conditions, or high fall risks.
  • Ability to provide gentle, respectful care while promoting the client's dignity and independence.
  • Strong communication skills to report changes in strength, cognition, or equipment status to the family.
  • Must respect and honor the client's DNR status.
  • Active California Home Care Aide (HCA) registration/license
  • Recent negative TB test documentation
  • Current CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide strict standby assistance and supervision for all mobility, ambulation, and transfers (in/out of bed and chairs) due to a high fall risk.
  • Assist with the proper application, positioning, and setup of the PureWick™ external catheter system at bedtime (before leaving at 10 PM). Maintain proper hygiene, provide skin care, and monitor for skin irritation.
  • Assist with evening routines including dressing, grooming, personal hygiene, toileting, and bathing support as needed.
  • Prepare evening meals, assist with feeding if needed, and provide timely medication reminders.
  • Keep walkways clear of obstacles, encourage the use of mobility aids, and maintain a clean, safe living environment.
  • Provide emotional support and warm companionship to both the client and his partner.
