About The Position

The Evangelism Discipleship Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading the evangelism and discipleship ministries of Burlington Community Church. The incumbent will focus on advancing the church’s mission of reaching individuals who are not yet connected to the church community, sharing the message of Jesus, and fostering an environment where newcomers feel welcomed, supported, and integrated into the life of the church. The coordinator will provide pastoral leadership in the areas of outreach, evangelism, and discipleship. Responsibilities include developing and implementing outreach strategies, planning and overseeing programs such as Alpha, Love New Canadians, and other community engagement initiatives, and identifying opportunities to build meaningful connections within the broader community. The incumbent will recruit, train, equip, and support volunteers involved in evangelism and discipleship ministries, ensuring they are empowered to effectively serve and engage others. The coordinator will also cultivate relationships with church members, visitors, and individuals exploring faith, providing guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for spiritual growth and discipleship.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years, Theological or Biblical training from an accredited university, theological school, or seminary.
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, and event management.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License; personal vehicle and insurance, and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • 2 years' experience with at least one year experience in a spiritual care role in a social services setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Understands and can provide a demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Experience with demonstrated capability in mission leadership and managing resources.
  • Proficient in a computerized environment; must have strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Willing to become a member of Burlington Community Church.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and public speaking skills.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • A strong understanding of professional boundaries and the ability to establish/set appropriate boundaries when working with a vulnerable population in a multicultural setting.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and participate as an active team member in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Ability to set goals for the discipleship & evangelism ministries and motivate the team and congregation to achieve them.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability.
  • Ability to provide supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a professional, positive, and engaging manner.

  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the evangelism and discipleship ministries by creating pathways for individuals to encounter Christ, grow in their faith, and become active participants in the Burlington Community Church.
  • Launch, manage and expand community-oriented programs such as Alpha, Love New Canadians and Café Church. Look for new opportunities to reach out to our community in ways that reflect the unique needs and opportunities of the Burlington CC context.
  • Provide pastoral care and discipleship for new contacts and new members. Connect and refer new members to the pastors (Corps Officers) for continued follow-up.
  • Offer spiritual guidance and support for people at all stages of their faith journey.
  • Build strong, authentic relationships with congregation members and new attendees.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where people feel known, valued, and connected.
  • Encourage and mentor individuals in their faith journeys, creating pathways for deeper discipleship and helping them to take a next step in their relationship with Christ.
  • Be an active and visible representative of The Salvation Army in the Burlington community and attend and participate in Sunday worship services.
  • Oversee and maintain systems for capturing, tracking, and following up with new contacts, visitors, and prospective congregants.
  • Ensure timely, meaningful, and consistent follow-up with new contacts to foster engagement and relationship-building.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate strategies that support the integration, connection, and ongoing involvement of new individuals and families within the life and ministries of the church.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with church leadership, ministry teams, congregants, staff, volunteers, and community partners, fostering positive and collaborative relationships.
  • Prepare, analyze, and provide statistical data, reports, and updates related to ministry activities, engagement initiatives, and outreach efforts, submitting regular reports to Corps Officers (Pastors) and the leadership team as required.
  • Develop volunteers (recruit, supervise, train, orientate) for evangelism & discipleship ministries, following Salvation Army recruitment process and procedure.
  • Demonstrate effective work practices and foster collaboration among volunteers to support the mission and objectives of the organization and enhance the ministries and services provided.
  • Assist in the development of strategies and recommendations for volunteer development.
  • In consultation with the supervisor, organize regular meetings with volunteers.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with ensuring the safety and comfort of the ministry unit by maintaining cleanliness and food safety etc.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
